krasse begegnung, ästhetisch zwar schwierig, als langstreckenkiste aber bestimmt tauglich - leben und leben lassen...

"I thought this thread would have died a while ago. Thanks Recht for posting it (I think).
Thank you very, very much to all that like my bike.
For those of you that have concerns or don’t understand, I’ll try to explain.
I’ve restored a few /2’s and they are great bikes but a bit slow. I was getting tired of mini vans trying to kill me. Lots of people have done later airhead conversions and some have done VW. These new motors offer great power and technology for little money. If you’ve ever ridden the new bikes side by side with the old, they all feel similar – they should, their all flat twins. The early /2 airheads show their displacement disadvantage very clearly but the later airheads and the oilheads are pretty close. The biggest difference is that the new motor is a bit stronger off the line and keeps making power all the way to a higher redline (I’ve bounced mine off the rev limiter a few times).
This bike runs and rides great - it’s a blast to ride and handles fine with koni’s on the 4 corners – stops good too with the /5 hubs and better shoe material. No stretch to the frame, just wider at the bottom. I don’t think the motor is any heaver after picking it up maybe 100 times. Reliability wise, /2 frames and forks can handle sidecar duty, which BMW dropped with /5 production. The driveline is a stock R1150RT engine and 6 speed with a larger dia. drive shaft drive and a final drive from a /6 or /7 (33/11) with deeper splines on the /5 hub (which I had to offset to get the wheel centerline right wit the bigger swing arm).
Overall it’s more usable than any /2 or conversion I’ve ridden, no matter if your going fast or slow
As for the proportions – You would need to see the bike in person – everyone who has is surprised at how “normal” it looks.
Regarding donor parts - No /2 trailer queens were killed to make this one – This R50 spent many years outside before I got it. Even the sport tank was underbid on ebay.
I know it’s not “authentic” – I was kind of shooting for that.
The whole kissing your sister thing just sounds wrong!!!
I don’t think it’s “soulless” but it sure is “slingerless”
Bottom line, for those that don’t like, I built it for myself. The fact that anyone sees it, good or bad, is an unavoidable consequence. At least /2 and conversion owners that don’t like it only have to see me for the brief moment that I pass them.
